can you stand the change? *New Edition voice*

New Month, new newsletter home.
Welcome to the new #blkcreatives newsletter, read on to get some of my creative lessons from this past month mixed with notes about this new digital space of ours:
1. Pivots are opportunities to create new possibilities.
Here at #blkcreatives, we are a team of creators who have used our creativity to build businesses, lifestyles that align with our values, and the communities we exist in. So when we share a resource, an idea, a project, etc we’re always thinking about how to live out the creative freedom we like to celebrate.
Merriam-Webster defines a pivot as a verb that means ‘to adapt or improve by adjusting or modifying’. Instead of resisting the work that comes with changing, we’re embracing it to make space for something new to emerge. As you can tell by the way our newsletter now looks, this is something new.
2. Community fills creative needs, too.
Our newsletter is a space to help us preserve, sustain, and elevate Black creativity in all of its phases of existence and development. We can’t do ANY of that without each other, and being nurtured and acknowledged inside of community (digital and offline) can really make space for creativity to flow. When you’re feeling your best, that’s when you feel on top right? The same thing goes for your creativity.
3. Get creative with defining your own meanings.
These days we hear a lot about consistency, yet consistency means different things for everyone and is easier to embrace as a concept when it’s about personal capacity vs. a measurement of a person’s value. Consistency for us means that we show up when we say we will.
We’ll be in your inbox every week on Monday night at 7 pm CST / 8 pm EST.
If you decide to become a financial supporter of this newsletter:
know that this is simply an option, the newsletter is FREE regardless!
it’s with the understanding that it’s a pledge of support and not in exchange for any additional newsletter perks.
we will shout out new paid subscribers as a thank you!
4. Gratitude makes way for more to be thankful for.
A creative exercise: Out loud, say thank you for five things that fuel your creativity. (Ex: I’m thankful for my pen game, I’m thankful for meditation).
How do you feel after that?
Being appreciative of what we do have and who we are, allows our awareness to be placed somewhere other than our worries. You, dear reader, have been part of the motivation to keep writing these newsletters. Thank you to every single subscriber who’s been with us over the years!
