“I think the story is about timelessness and the love of the game. Timelessness. Endurance.”
“Not being limited. It’s a lot of color on this album. I think one of the good things without even trying to be strategic and us trying to do this and do that, with every track, you’re still gonna get who we are within the confines of that sound that P put together. It doesn’t matter what it is, you’re still getting raw Clipse: our creativity, our mind, and just where we at.”
- Pusha T & Malice, “Clipse & Pharrell Tell The Story Behind ‘Let God Sort Em Out’ | Complex Cover”
I was so moved by the creative energy in this video, that I had to share it as the focal point of this week’s newsletter. You’ve already seen and taken part in the continuous conversation about how pristine Clipse rollout has been for this album. I really do believe them finishing the album a year before release played a BIG part in that but that’s another newsletter for another time. They’ve done some phenomenal interviews yet this is the one that stands out the most to me as a writer, as a artist, as a creative, as a lover and a witness to Black culture.
LGSEMO is carefully hand crafted by THREE brothers - Push, Malice, and Pharrell in a spirit of collaboration with an intention to protect their art, their loyalty, and their stories. The layers and layers of alignment happening within the creation of the album makes for one of the most fulfilling creative conversation I’ve seen this year. Their focus on the craft, on musical pockets, on how they skipped school together, is a reminder that the creativity we’re building our lives around, IS SUPPOSED TO BE FUN. IT’S SUPPOSED TO MAKE US HAPPY, TOO. IT’S SUPPOSED TO BE ENJOYABLE. IT’S SUPPOSED TO BE A BREAKTHROUGH FOR US, TOO.
So be it,
MK
Creative Prompt
Pick up a creative practice of your choice, put down your phone, set a timer for 45 minutes, and create just for the sake of creating. Don’t think about anything else but how much you love this shit and let yourself be immersed in that energy until the timer goes off. Notice how your energy has shifted, notice what’s come up for you.
